Week 29

Coo Deh Im here! Whagwan?!

this week has been super cool! we found a new family to teach that is right by where we live and they fed us an american meal! so good! but onto the week......

Monday 3-10-14
Today for Pday we went out to Old Harbour and played basketball with the elders out there. we also had Maypen come over. there were like 20 missionaries there playing Basketball or Soccer! i found out one thing while i was playing.... i really suck at basketball now. looks like Keaden may be able to beat me when i get back home haha. i also made a goal that i was not going to spend so much on food this week. well.... that didnt work. i spent $7000 on food again. this week i defiantly am not going to spend that much. i will look at my expenses now haha. but my bike had some more problems. i got a flat tire again. so i rode like 2.5km from one part of our area, on a busy road with a lot of cars, with a flat tire, in the dark. back to the house. man did that hurt. luckily i was able to get the thing fixed. we have a tradeoff tomorrow and i really dont wanna walk around for it.

Tuesday 3-11-14
so weird story of the day. during our personal study time this morning, a dog was killing a chicken. like it was biting it so much that it was freaking out and then just went all relaxed and quite. it was kinda cool to see haha. it was right in our backyard to so up close and personal i guess haha. we also had our tradeoff today so i was with Elder Matthews. he is from Idaho. during the day we had a lesson with some Jehovah Witnesses. and i mean a lesson! they usually dont like us talking to them down here so we never have lessons with them. but they were sitting at a members house when we showed up and we just got to talking. we eventually got to sharing the restoration. it was pretty cool. they didnt want to do much so we left after a while. we had to get to some other appointments too haha. We also had a great lesson with Gary and Nicole! they are the new family we found by our house! they are super prepared! they are married, which almost never happens here in Jamrock, and have a small child! we just told them our purpose and they accepted a return appointment. i cant wait to teach them tho! they even said that they wanted to feed us the next time that we came over! we can never deny that haha! then we went over to the McCalla house. Sherefah was looking down so we just answered a bunch of her questions. we covered a lot of stuff. we started out first talking about Kolob and singing the song, and somehow got our way into repentance. not really sure how that happened but whatever haha. her brother even came and plopped a seat when he saw what we were teaching. she had a lot of questions so we didnt end until like 9pm. so we were late getting home... but it was a good day and i loved it!

Wednesday 3-12-14
We had a way good zone meeting today! the zone leaders taught us that we should not teach the Gospel of Jesus Christ in one lesson. we should never teach repentance until someone is showing forth their faith. it was a pretty interesting thing and its gonna change some things around here. to say the least, we have to repent to teach repentance haha. other than that it was a little bit of a slow day. when we went over to a less actives house, her daughter wanted me to tow her on my bike. we had to say no of course. we felt bad. she is like 3 years old haha. when we finally got away, she chased us up the street for like 200 yards! i felt bad but i couldnt do it. we then went over to Christinea's house in the night. she basically shared a thought with us. so it was a good day but a little slow in the teaching aspect.

Thursday 3-13-14
We went back to Gary and Nicole today. we taught them the restoration. they really loved it! gary said that everything made sense to him and he committed to read the Book of Mormon! he even wanted to have Joseph Smith History! first time that i have ever heard that on my mission! they are really interested! thank heaves for people who love Christ haha. they then fed us the best meal i have ever had down here! it was noodles, fish, and potatoes! it was so american! Nicole is a professional chef so that helps a lot! hopefully that can happen more often haha ;) we also went over to brother browns house for our missionary coordination meeting. we had a super good one with him. there were a lot of things that were talked about that we could do better, brought up by another missionary, and some assignments for the branch that we could use their help in. since ive been here those meetings have really improved. hopefully that can continue.

Friday 3-14-14
today i just felt really drained. i was kinda tired today. and also i was home-food sick. just kinda missing all of the McDonalds, wendys, subway, and coasta. one day i will have all of those again haha! they have wendys and subway in kingston so if i get transferred there someday then i know where i am going haha! we went over to see Everal today. he is an interesting guy. we think that he is a member of like 3 different churches, including ours. we went over today just to check up on him and share a short thought. like 30 minutes at the very max. well he talked. and talked, and talked, and talked. i think he went like 45 minutes without an interruption. Elder Norman and I have no idea what he said. we both just zoned out for the entire time. we answered when we needed to and it was in context. man it was just so long. we were there for like 70 minutes! but he is a good guy. not all there but still a great guy. we also went over to the Campbell family. they always have great discussions. 2 of the 3 kids there are gonna be baptized in like 2 weeks so we are working with them a bit too when we go over there. our lessons are normally split in 2. one half for the kids, the other for everyone. today we just kinda went over tithing and prophets. they understood it really well. i really cant wait for their baptism!

Saturday 3-15-14
So small fact of the day: janet, a lady that i was teaching in Port Antonio, got baptized with her 3 kids today! that made me super excited! they walk to church every week now! even in the rain! they are so converted and they love the gospel with all of their hearts! but we had a bit of a service day today. we normally try to make saturdays the day of service for the house. afterwards it started raining for a bit. its been raining here the past little while and its really weird. Spanish Town is normally pretty hot and dry. if its like this during the winter, then i can only imagine what rainy season next month is going to bring. hopefully not as bad as Porty haha. we had a lesson with Antonette about the Book of Mormon today. we just kinda went over what it was and why its used. she understood and said that she was going to read it. we also went back to the campbells tonight. we went over the baptism interview questions with 2 of the children. they didnt quite know who Thomas S. Monson was so we are gonna go over that later. but other than that they knew everything! one of them even knew more than we thought that he did. it was super cool to see. they should be baptized on the 29th. we also joined in on some home teaching today. we just walked in when someone was doing theirs haha. nakeitha also came with us. when we walked her home, there was a little bit of an argument there with something that happened earlier in the day. we just kinda got out of there. it involved us but we tried to get out asap!

Sunday 3-16-14
one thing that we did today was go over to Nakeithas and apologize for what we caused over at the house. we felt really bad. we never had any intentions to offend them. but everything is cool. now. during church today, someone sang in gospel principles. its really funny when people start to do that! its a normal thing down here i guess. we try to not let it happen tho. today we went over to the campbells house and explained who thomas s monson was. they understand it now haha. they can really pick up on things way fast. we also went to the mccallas. just a routine check up for them. they didnt show up to church today so we were a little worried. JD, the son, is way converted and knows a lot so it surprised us that they werent there. i guess that something in the family came up. we also went and met Monique, a member. she is way cool! she also kinda gave us a referral. she said that she really wants us to meet her friend. which of course means, hey can you teach my friend? i love when that happens haha :) i had never really met her before so we just kinda introduced me and all that. i love the members down here tho. they are super cool!

So thats my week. it was super good. elder norman and i are doing a ton of work! i have never been so tired on my mission until this transfer! the next 16 months are gonna be so awesome!

Love,
Elder Kurt Meacham
